Accessing Medical and Dental Treatment
All permanent civil servants are covered by the Government Medical Insurance Scheme. This guide explains how to access routine treatment, what happens when you need extended sick leave or a Medical Board assessment, and the process for seeking government-funded overseas medical care.
Your Coverage Under the Medical Insurance Scheme
All officers holding permanent and pensionable appointments are automatically enrolled in the Government Medical Insurance Scheme from the date of their confirmation in post. The scheme covers the cost of treatment at approved government health facilities, including examinations, prescribed medication, and hospitalisation. Dental treatment for essential procedures is also covered. You are required to present your staff identity card or relevant scheme documentation when attending a health facility for treatment.

Returning to Duty After Illness
Before returning to work after extended sick leave or a Medical Board process, obtain a fitness-to-return certificate from a government medical officer. Submit this to your Head of Department on your first day back. Your salary entitlements resume from the date certified as fit. If you return before the end of your approved sick leave period, notify your Head of Department immediately so the leave record is updated.
