Applying for Annual Leave
The complete leave application process, eligibility rules, and what happens if your request is denied.
Check Your Eligibility
Annual leave entitlements depend on your grade. Grade 10 and above: 25 working days per year. Grades 7–9: 22 days. Grades 3–6: 20 days. Grades 1–2: 15 days. Leave accrues from your appointment date. You cannot normally take leave during your first year (probation period) without special permission.
What is your situation?
Submit Your Application
Complete the official leave application form and submit it to your Permanent Secretary, Head of Department, or designated Supervisor at least two weeks before your intended start date. Your supervisor has the authority to approve or deny the request based on the needs of the service.
Await Approval
Your supervisor will consider whether adequate staff cover exists and whether you have a sufficient leave balance. Permanent Secretaries wishing to take leave must obtain the agreement of the Secretary General. If denied, request written reasons and apply for an alternative period.
During Your Leave
You continue to receive full salary while on approved annual leave. You must not engage in any paid employment during your leave. If you fall ill during leave, you may apply for the period to be converted to sick leave with a medical certificate. Failure to return to duty after leave results in unpaid leave status and possible disciplinary action.
