Understand the General Rule
As a civil servant, you cannot undertake any remunerative work outside your official duties without prior written approval. You also cannot use government office equipment or resources for any outside work. Engaging in unauthorized outside business while on duty is classified as Misconduct under the Code of Conduct.

Whether or not you engage in outside work, you must never use official information for personal gain or disclose it inappropriately. If you have any private interest in a matter you are handling officially, you must declare it immediately. The Code of Conduct specifically prohibits conflict of interest, influence peddling, and seeking personal benefits through your official position.
