Transport & Travel
Every transport and travel entitlement for Gambian civil servants — basic car allowance (Grade 9+), residential allowance, motorcycle and bicycle allowances, travelling facilities (duty travel, medical travel, exam travel), travelling allowance (D650/night), relocation allowance, provincial allowances (Zone 1 and Zone 2), government vehicle use rules, river transport, and log sheet requirements.
Chapter 5 covers personal transport entitlements and travel allowances, while Chapter 10 governs Government transport use. Section I — Basic Car and Residential Allowances: basic car allowance is payable to Grade 9+ officers who own and maintain a roadworthy car available for use (GO 05101), subject to certification (GO 05102). The allowance ceases when the officer no longer owns a car, leaves The Gambia for 3+ months, is provided Government transport, or the car is laid up for 3+ months (GO 05104). Residential allowance: Grade 10+ receives D700; transport allowance for Grades 1–9 is D500, motorcycle D350, bicycle D250 monthly (GO 05105). Officers receiving car/transport allowance shall not be provided Government transport (GO 05109). Section II — Travelling Facilities: officers are entitled to transport when travelling on duty, for medical/dental treatment, or for approved exams (GO 05203). Officers get free transport for spouse and up to 3 children under 18 when assuming duty, on posting, or proceeding on annual leave (GO 05204). Category III or below officers in remote stations get free transport to the nearest Government Medical Officer (GO 05205). Free transport is provided for repatriation of a deceased officer's family (GO 05206) and for invalided/retiring officers (GO 05207). Section III — Travelling Allowances: D650 per night for duty travel of one or more nights (GO 05303); not payable when Government boarding/lodging is provided or when staying at one place for 10+ consecutive days (GO 05302). Relocation allowance: 1/60th of annual basic salary (GO 05304). Provincial allowances: Zone 1 (North Bank, Lower River, West Coast excluding Greater Banjul) 12% of basic salary; Zone 2 (Upper River, Central River) 15% (GO 05305). Chapter 10 — Government Transport: definitions cover vehicular and river transport (GO 10101). Log sheets must be completed by driver and certified by using officer after every journey (GO 10110, 10112). Government transport may not be hired for private use (GO 10111). River transport passage warrants must state purpose, officer status, and entitlement (GO 10109).
